John Brown
ChairPerson of the Property Committe
Hi, my name is John Brown and I am the chairperson of the property committee.
It is my great privilege to be able to lead the team as a church volunteer to make sure that our facilities are second to none. As an architect for the last 38 years, I thoroughly enjoy using the knowledge that I’ve gained to allow me to be an asset for Holmeswood and our team to create a space that is welcoming and safe for all. I am thankful to be a part of Holmeswood and to work with so many people who give their time, talents and financial support to make sure our church continues to be a place of ministry and love for others.
In the early 1950s Holmeswood moved to this site. We were started as a mission church in a fast-growing part of the city. Our site and buildings grew to support the needs of our congregation and our ministry to others.
The work of this committee is of great importance to the ongoing success of Holmeswood Church. Because we sit at a prominent position geographically, we have to make sure that our property is safe and appealing for our members and guests both on the interior and on the exterior of our site.
Our team focuses on two important aspects of caring for our property:
1. The daily ongoing maintenance required for our operations
2. Long-term planning and implementation of major capital improvements. Some of our recent capital improvements have included the renovation of our worship space, installation of new carpeting in several areas, repaving our parking lot, and installing new HVAC units. We are now in the next phase of improvements to support our ministries.
In the last 20 years, we have opened our church up to other tenants that provide wonderful services to our community. These tenants also need to have facilities that are attractive, safe and meet state of the art standards to allow them to serve those around us. As part of our ministry we share our building with diverse groups ranging from child daycare, recreational groups, other churches with worship space needs, and small groups who need safe spaces to meet such as AA.
