worship Services

Every Sunday morning, members and visitors of Holmeswood Baptist Church gather to worship together. While the membership of Holmeswood represents many faith backgrounds, it is in this time of community worship that we experience common goals – to praise in song and word, thought and action, our God and Creator; to bear witness to the life-changing relationship one can have with Jesus Christ; and to experience the guidance and movement of the Holy Spirit as we take our corporate experience with us in our daily lives.

Sunday mornings at Holmeswood are vibrant and meaningful. We employ an ancient liturgy with a blended style of worship using traditional elements like choirs, handbells and hymns accompanied by our pianist, along with more contemporary songs and choruses led by a praise team utilizing the piano, drums and guitars. Any given Sunday brings an eclectic mix of music, Scripture readings, prayers, and congregational participation that points our focus, attention and devotion toward our Creator God. We gather for worship first and then interact with each other in Bible Fellowship Groups (BFGs) following worship. This gives BFGs an opportunity to extend class, or to go directly from class to lunch or other activities. This schedule also means that more of the Sabbath is yours to determine. The possibilities are endless!

Be Part of Our Music Ministry

Sanctuary Choir

Open to all ages of singers interested in singing anthems in worship, leading the congregational singing and presenting extended musical worship services. It offers singers a variety of musical expressions as they lead each week in worship. This group is a central part of our Music Ministry at Holmeswood. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 pm in the choir room.

Sanctuary Handbells

Our hand bell ringers play over five octaves of hand bells and hand chimes. These are mostly experienced ringers, but if you have an interest and can read music, there may well be a place for you in this talented group. Hand bells play in worship as well as for outside groups. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:10 to 7:20 pm in our Handbell room.

Holmeswood Community Chorus

Open to all adults in the community who enjoy regularly singing for community organizations such as retirement centers, churches, and clubs. We have many people from various churches and our community. We sing a variety of music from Broadway classics to Spirituals to religious anthems, all done with energy, laughter, and integrity. We rehearse on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in our choir room.

Praise Team

Our Praise Team musicians lead us in singing contemporary songs in worship. They are very serious musicians that work very hard to present more contemporary songs and hymns with integrity. We rehearse on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am before our worship service.

Instrumentalists

We have place for you as soloists and in conjunction with other musical groups.

4D2nd Street

This is our annual summer kid’s music week for rising 2nd grader through rising 8th graders. Where did we get that name? The 4 D’s are Drama, Discover, Discipleship and D’Music. We begin on a Monday morning, and we learn a musical (drama and music!) that week and perform it on Thursday night. We rehearse in the mornings and have fun field trips in the afternoons.
