Quote that has stuck with you: I was saying goodbye to a dear friend who was on Hospice care.  When I asked him what was going through his head knowing his death was imminent, he replied, "I don't know when I wake up tomorrow if I will be here or someplace else.  And if I'm someplace else, I don't know what that will look like.  But if I'm here, or if I'm there, I believe my God will be with me.  And I am good with that."

  • Sydney Robb

    Interim Coordinator of Children Ministries

What excites you most about being at Holmeswood?

What excites me most about Holmeswood is the sense of community I get from being around everyone there. It truly feels like a church family.

If you had a completely free day, how would you spend it?

I would spend it with my family out in nature.  We would spend time as a family.  I could play music.  At night we could see the stars.  It would be lovely.

What's a quirky fact about you?

I used my musical background to write a choral song to Psalm 23 when I was in college.  It ended up becoming my senior capstone.

If your life had a theme song, what would it be?

"Dancing with my Shadow" by Benjamin William Hastings or the piece "Claire de Lune" By Claude Debussy.  But, in all honesty, my theme song would change regularly.

  • Heather Lehman

    Interim Coordinator of Youth Ministries

If you could help every student hold onto one truth about themselves or God, what would it be?
You are fully known and fully loved—by others, by God, and you are worthy of that same love from yourself.

The love of others reminds you that you don’t have to do life alone.  The love of Christ shows you that your worth was never something you had to earn—it was given freely and completely.  And learning to love yourself means choosing to believe those truths even on the days when they’re hardest to see.

If that one truth could take root, it would change how you see your failures, your relationships, and your purpose.  You’d begin to live not trying to prove your worth, but from a place of already having it.

What's your go-to favorite local restaurant in the KC area?

    Shack Breakfast & Lunch

What's something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I am a huge fan of the Canadian band called the Barenaked Ladies.  I have been following them since I was in college in Michigan.

If you had a completely free Saturday, what would it look like?

Starting with my favorite yoga class then brunch with friends. Later in  the afternoon and evening I would listen to an audiobook and cross stitch.
